Boilers and Steam Generation for Hotels and Process Plants

The kitchens, laundry, guest floors and any process equipment are reviewed to establish what form of heat each one needs. The fuel available at the site decides whether a fired boiler, a steam generator or a hot water generator suits the property.

Feed water is treated and stored to limit the scale and dissolved solids carried into the vessel. Storage and jacketed vessels hold the treated water and the condensate returned from the system.

The burner fires into the combustion chamber and the heat is passed to the water across the boiler surfaces. Where a process needs heat without steam, a thermic fluid circuit is used in place of the water side.

Steam and hot water are carried through insulated lines to kitchens, laundry equipment and guest floors. Where a duty needs heated air rather than steam, a hot air generator feeds that duct run directly, and heat exchangers separate the boiler circuit from service water where the two must not mix.

Flue gas is treated before discharge where the fuel or the local rules require it. Heat still held in the flue or in the exhaust air can be recovered and returned to the water or air side.

Firing, water level and safety trips are configured in the control panel and tested before the boiler is released for use. Operating staff are briefed on start-up, shutdown and blowdown routines, and the spares list is handed over.
