Soybean processing turns harvested beans into oil, cake and soya flour for food and feed use. Cleaned beans are cracked, dehulled, conditioned and flaked before the oil is expelled, and the residual cake is milled into meal or flour.

How it works

Complete Seed Process Flow

Cleaning & De-Stoning

Incoming beans are screened to remove pods, straw, dust and undersized material, with stones and tramp metal taken out before any milling stage. Removing hard contaminants early protects the cracking and flaking rolls further down the line.

Cracking & Dehulling

Whole beans are cracked into pieces so the hull loosens from the cotyledon, and the light hulls are then drawn off in an air stream. Hull removal raises the protein level of the meal and keeps fibre out of the oil-bearing fraction.

Conditioning & Flaking

Cracked meats are warmed and moisture-conditioned so they become plastic, then passed through smooth rolls to form thin flakes. Flaking opens up the cell structure so the oil can be released in the pressing stage.

Extrusion & Oil Expelling

Flakes are extruded and then pressed in a screw expeller, which separates crude oil from the solid cake. Extrusion is also used on its own where full-fat soya is being produced for feed.

Cake Milling & Sifting

Press cake is broken down and milled into soya meal or finer soya flour, then classified to the grade being sold. Milling releases fine dust, so the mill is worked with extraction on the discharge points.

Weighing, Packing & Dispatch

Meal, flour and whole beans are weighed and filled into bags or sacks, closed, and checked for metal before palletising. Packed loads are wrapped for storage and transport.
