Sorghum is fed over screens that pull out stalk, glumes, dust and undersize seed. Ferrous material is removed before the grain reaches any abrasive machine.

Stones and clods of the same size as the grain are separated by density, and light chaff is drawn off in the air stream. Clean, even grain decorticates more consistently in the next stage.

Abrasive decortication removes the pericarp and the testa layer that carries the bitter note in some varieties. Bran and fines are drawn straight into dust collection so the working area stays clear.

Decorticated kernels are graded to size and sorted to remove discoloured, mouldy and foreign grain. Rejects are diverted automatically rather than picked by hand.

Kernels are milled and sifted into grits, meal and jowar flour according to the grade being run.

Flour and grits are weighed and filled into pouches or sacks, stitched and palletised for despatch.
