Rubber seal manufacturing bonds a moulded elastomer lip onto a metal case: the case is washed and coated with bonding agent, compound preforms are moulded onto it under heat, and the seal is then deflashed, spring-fitted and dimensionally checked.

How it works

Complete Seal Process Flow

Compound & Preform Preparation

Elastomer compound is mixed with fillers and curing chemicals and formed into preforms sized for the seal being run. Preform weight consistency is what keeps the moulded lip filling the same way every cycle.

Metal Case Cleaning & Bonding Coat

Stamped metal cases are degreased, rinsed and dried, then coated with primer and bonding agent. Solvent vapour from the coating station is drawn off at the booth so it does not spread through the shop.

Moulding & Curing Utilities

Compound and case are brought together in a heated mould so the rubber cures and bonds to the metal in one operation. The presses are served by the plant heating and cooling circuits and by local fume capture.

Deflashing & Lip Finishing

Flash left at the mould parting line is trimmed away and the sealing lip is finished to its final profile. Rubber dust from trimming and grinding is collected at the machine hood.

Spring Fitting & Inspection

The garter spring is fitted into its groove and each seal is checked for lip condition, bond and dimensions.

Packing & Despatch

Seals are pouched or boxed by part number, coded and collated into outer cartons for despatch.
