Powdered chemical manufacturing converts liquid, slurry or granular raw materials into a dry, free-flowing powder of controlled particle size. The route usually combines dosing, dry blending or reaction, drying, milling and sieving, followed by contained filling.

How it works

Complete Powdered Chemical Process Flow

Raw Material Intake & Dosing

Bagged and bulk solids are tipped and conveyed to day storage, while liquid and slurry feeds are held in tanks alongside them. Each ingredient is weighed out to the batch recipe, and that charging sets the composition of everything downstream.

Dry Blending & Reaction

Weighed solids are blended, and where the formulation calls for it, granulated or reacted in the mixer. How long the batch is worked in the mixer is what decides whether successive packs drawn from it match.

Drying

Depending on the route, a solution or slurry is spray dried, or the wet mass from the mixer is dried and the moisture driven off. The dryer is chosen to suit the feed and the heat sensitivity of the chemical, since drying is what stabilises the powder against caking in storage.

Milling & Particle Sizing

Dried lumps and agglomerates are reduced and milled down to the particle size the application requires. Particle size governs how the powder dissolves, disperses and flows in the customer's own process.

Sieving & Contaminant Removal

Milled powder is screened to take out oversize, and passed over magnets and detectors to pull out ferrous and metal fragments. Off-size and foreign matter are rejected before the powder reaches the filling machine.

Dust Extraction & Containment

Airborne dust is captured at the mill, sieve and packing points and carried to collection. Extraction at these points is what keeps dust out of the workspace and stops one grade carrying over into the next.

Filling & Packing

Finished powder is auger-filled into pouches, sacks or drums, sealed, and stacked for despatch. Pack format follows the trade the chemical is sold into, from small retail packs to bulk industrial drums.
