Maize and de-oiled cake are pre-cleaned to take out husk, dust, stones and metal before milling. Aspiration removes the light chaff that would otherwise carry through into the finished feed.

Cleaned grain is milled to the particle size the bird can handle, which differs between chick, grower and layer rations. Ground meal is sieved and the mill is run under dust extraction.

Bulk ingredients are weighed by formula and micro-ingredients such as vitamins, enzymes and toxin binders are dosed separately in small quantities. Micro-dosing is kept on its own line because these additives are used in very small proportions.

The batch is blended and vegetable oil is sprayed in during mixing to raise the energy value of the ration. Oil is held in a stirred tank so it stays homogeneous before dosing.

Mash is steam-conditioned and pressed into pellets, then cooled. For chick feed the cooled pellets are passed between rolls and broken into crumbs, which is the form young birds can eat.

Crumbs and pellets are sieved to separate fines and off-size material. Feed is bagged, weight-checked and moved to the loading bay.
