Plastic products start from polymer resin delivered as granules or powder. The resin is conveyed from silos, dosed with masterbatch, fillers and additives, mixed, compounded in an extruder and cut into granules, which are then formed into the finished article. Off-cuts are reground and returned to the feed.
Complete Plastic Products Manufacturing Process Flow
Resin arrives in sacks, bulk bags or tanker and is tipped or blown into silos and day bins. It is drawn from there to the mixing floor under vacuum.
Colour masterbatch, filler, stabiliser and process aid are weighed against the resin to the formulation and released to the mixer.
Resin and additives are mixed until the additives are distributed through the batch. High-shear mixing is used where the additive has to be worked into the polymer surface.
The mix is melted and worked in an extruder, then the strand is cooled and cut into granules for the forming line.
Compounded granules are formed into the finished product, cooled until they hold shape, then taken off the line.
Sprues, trim and rejected parts are shredded and crushed back to granule, checked for metal and blown back into the feed.
Granules or finished parts are bagged, closed, stacked and wrapped for despatch.
