Oats Processing Plant & Machinery Solutions
Oats processing turns harvested oats into groats, steel-cut grains and rolled flakes fit for milling and packing. Raw oats are cleaned, graded, dehulled and heat-treated to stabilise the groat, then cut or flaked before packing.
Complete Grain Process Flow
Incoming oats are tipped, elevated and passed over screens and aspiration to take out straw, chaff, dust and tramp metal. Cleaning at intake protects the hulling and milling machines further down the line.
Cleaned oats are sized and separated by density so thin grains, light seeds and stones are removed before hulling. Uniform kernels hull more evenly and leave fewer unhulled grains in the groat stream.
The hull is cracked away from the groat and the light hulls are drawn off in an air stream. Grain that comes through still covered is returned for a second pass.
Groats are steamed and heat-treated to stabilise the grain and develop the roasted note associated with oats. They are then cooled and held before flaking so the kernel is conditioned for rolling.
Groats are cut into steel-cut pieces or passed through rolls to make flakes, and part of the stream can be ground into oat flour. Sifting after each stage separates fines and out-of-size material.
Flakes, groats or flour are weighed, filled into pouches or bags, coded and checked before palletising. Metal detection and check-weighing sit in line ahead of the pallet.
