Industrial mineral processing turns quartz, feldspar, calcite, dolomite, talc and barytes into graded powders for paint, ceramics, plastics, glass and construction. The ore is crushed and sized, washed and dried, freed of iron, then ground and micronised, air-classified to the required fineness and packed.

How it works

Complete Building Material Process Flow

Crushing & Sizing

Run-of-mine quartz, feldspar, calcite or talc is crushed and screened down to a mill feed size. Lumps are hand-sorted at this stage where colour or purity decides the grade.

Washing & Drying

Ore carrying clay or surface dirt is washed and then dried, because dry grinding needs dry feed. Dried material is held in bins ahead of the mills.

Iron Removal

Many mineral grades are sold on low iron content, so tramp iron and iron-bearing grains are taken out ahead of grinding. Density-based separation removes the heavier unwanted particles.

Grinding & Micronising

The mineral is ground down and then micronised to the fine powder that paint, plastics and ceramic buyers specify. The mill is chosen to suit the hardness of the mineral being handled.

Air Classification & Sieving

Ground powder is classified in air to the required fineness, with coarse material returned to the mill. Sieving gives a final check on top size before packing.

Packing & Palletising

Powder is weighed into bags or bulk bags, closed and stacked. Grades are kept apart through packing so that one does not contaminate another.

Dust Collection

Fine mineral powder becomes airborne easily, so mills, classifiers and packing points are kept under extraction. Recovered powder is returned to the product stream.
