Medicine manufacturing converts active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients into finished dosage forms such as tablets, capsules and liquids. Raw materials are dispensed, sifted, blended, granulated and dried, then formed into the chosen dosage, inspected and packed under controlled conditions.
Common Process Flow
Incoming actives and excipients are tipped, weighed against the batch record and moved into the process area in closed transfer. Enclosed handling keeps airborne powder out of the room and keeps each batch traceable.
Powders are passed through a screen to break lumps and are milled where a finer particle size is called for. A magnetic stage removes tramp metal before the material goes forward to mixing.
Actives and excipients are mixed to a uniform blend so that every dose carries the same content. Ointment, cream and paste bases are worked in heavier-duty mixers that handle thick masses.
Wet or damp material is dried down to the moisture level the formulation requires, using vacuum drying for heat-sensitive actives. Moisture is checked before the batch is released to the next stage.
The finished blend or liquid is dosed into the chosen presentation — capsules, bottles, vials or tubes. Servo-driven fillers are used where the fill quantity has to be repeated across the run.
Processing rooms are served by filtered air, temperature and humidity control, and dust extraction at the machines. These utilities are sized and installed alongside the process line rather than added afterwards.
Packs are weight-checked, screened for metal and camera-inspected, then batch and expiry details are printed on. Approved packs go into unit cartons and shippers for despatch.
