Footwear sole manufacturing mills rubber or EVA compound into sheet, blanks the sheet into preforms, and moulds each preform into a sole, which is then trimmed, buffed on the bonding face, washed and printed before pairing.
Complete Footwear Sole Process Flow
Rubber or EVA is mixed with fillers, blowing agents and pigment, then milled into sheet and cooled. Sheet is stacked flat so blanks cut from it stay to gauge.
Sheet is cut into blanks matched to sole size and cavity, and fed to the press stations in sorted trays.
Blanks are moulded under heat, and expanded grades are held and stabilised after release from the mould. Press heating and post-mould cooling are carried by the plant utility circuits.
Flash is trimmed from the sole edge and the bonding face is buffed so adhesive will key to it. Buffing releases fine rubber dust, which is drawn off at each machine hood.
Soles are washed to remove release agent and dust, dried, printed with size and branding marks, and checked.
Left and right soles are paired by size, counted, bagged and packed into cartons for the shoe line.
